HYDERABAD: Taskforce police arrested two persons for allegedly misappropriating the money collected for the treatment of ailing persons through crowd funding method.
The accused are, Salman Khan, 29, president of Hyderabad Youth Courage (HYC) NGO, and Syed Ayub, 31, Organiser of HYC. According to police, the accused have been operating a facebook page – Hyderabad Youth courage – and started posting videos of financially deprived people and those who need medical help, seeking financial assistance from people.
Recently, Salman Khan posted a video on Facebook requesting people to provide monetary help for Yasmeen Sultana, who was suffering from chronic ailment. In the video, the accused mentioned the bank account number of Yasmeen’s relative Asra Begum for people to send their donations.
“Within three days, donations of lakhs of rupees were deposited in the bank account of Asra and she transferred Rs15 lakh to Salman Khan’s bank account and Rs 15 lakh into the account of Rashed, a relative of Syed Ayub. The balance amount which is about Rs 16 lakh, remained in Asra’s account,” Taskforce inspector S Raghavendra said.
Based on the complaint of donors, Chandrayangutta police have registered a cheating case against Salman and others recently. On Wednesday, Taskforce police arrested Salman and Ayub from Humayun Nagar and seized three cell phones from their possession. Asra is absconding.
