Rajasthan CM’s brother gets fresh date for ED appearance | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Agrasain Gehlot, elder brother of Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and an accused in a money laundering case related to fertiliser scam, on Wednesday sought adjournment of his questioning by the Enforcement Directorate on account of his bad health. He has now been given a fresh date and summoned in the first week of August.
The agency, however, recorded the statement of his son Anupam on Wednesday in the case where his firm Anupam Krishi was engaged in alleged illegal export of potash in league with Saraf Impex Pvt Ltd. Anupam Krishi was the origin of the exports made by Saraf Impex.
The total illegal exports of MOP (Muriate of Potash) is around 30,000 tons worth Rs 130 crore. Agrasain Gehlot is accused of receiving huge commission, according to the show cause notices issued by the directorate of revenue intelligence that had investigated the case and later filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet).
Two show cause notices issued by customs authorities against Gehlot in 2013 allege he was aware of the ‘smuggling syndicate’, and when confronted with documentary evidence by the investigating officers, he ‘accepted the fact of receiving payments in cash’. The customs authorities had imposed Rs 61 crore of penalty on Gehlot in 2013 for the alleged fraud.
