Sunni board sets up trust to build Ayodhya masjid | India News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Ahead of the bhoomi pujan for Ram temple in Ayodhya by PM Narendra Modi, the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board on Wednesday released the names of trustees for the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF), a body formed to oversee the construction of a mosque and other public facilities on the five acres of alternative land granted them by the Supreme Court in its November 2019 judgment.
The board announced its decision on the day TOI reported that the five acres of land mandated by SC was yet to be handed over to it. The board, through its CEO, will be the founder trustee of the IICF, a post currently held by Syed Mohammad Shoeb.
Board chairperson Zufar Ahmad Faruqi, who is on a six-month extension, will be the president/chief trustee of IICF. He told TOI that nine members/trustees of the 15-member trust have been finalised and added that the remaining six would include local representation from Ayodhya.
Gorakhpur’s Adnan Farrukh Shah will be the IICF vice-president while Lucknow’s Athar Husain, a journalist, and Meerut industrialist Faez Aftab will be its secretary and treasurer, respectively. The other member trustees include Mohammad Junaid Siddiqui, Mohammad Rashid and Imran Ahmad of Lucknow and Sheikh Sauduzzaman of Banda.
